Clara, the baby

Clara was born at 8:49 PM (Mountain time zone) on July 3, 2001, 5 lbs 13 oz, 19 inches, perfectly healthy and very beautiful. We had arrived at the OB-GYN that morning for the regular weekly checkup--the due date was not until July 21st. Because Sandy's blood pressure had gone up, the doctor decided the induce the pregnancy that same day. Sandy was put on an IV at 11am and labour started around 1pm. There was one minor complication: the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, and pressure against the chord cause Clara's heart rate to dip twice during the delivery. She came out very white, but she turned a healthy pink in just a few minutes. She's named after Clara Schumann, the Romantic era composer and virtuoso pianist. As you might guess, we already have high hopes for her! Don't worry, we promise not to warp her personality too much. ;-)
